Dry – eye detector is a medical device used to detect and evaluate the condition of dry eye. It is usually based on a variety of technical principles, and can detect dry – eye related indicators, such as tear secretion, tear film stability, and the integrity of the ocular surface epithelium.

Dry – eye detectors have diverse detection functions. On the one hand, it can measure the tear secretion volume within a certain period through the tear secretion test, such as the Schirmer test, using special test paper to determine whether the patient has insufficient tear secretion. On the other hand, it can observe the tear – film break – up time by means of infrared imaging or fluorescence staining technology to evaluate the stability of the tear film. If the tear – film break – up time is too short, it indicates poor tear – film stability, which is one of the important characteristics of dry eye. In addition, some dry – eye detectors can also observe the morphology and integrity of ocular surface epithelial cells through fluorescence staining or confocal microscopy technology. The damage and shedding of epithelial cells also suggest the possible existence of dry eye.
